Laser Skin Resurfacing

Hattiesburg Clinic offers laser skin resurfacing, including CO2 laser resurfacing, to help our clients reach their complexion goals and improve the surface and appearance of their skin.

Laser Skin Resurfacing Overview

If you are looking to enhance the appearance and texture of your skin, laser skin resurfacing may be the solution for you. Also known as skin rejuvenation, this advanced treatment helps reduce fine lines, scars, uneven pigmentation and sun damage, leading to smoother, more youthful-looking skin. At Hattiesburg Clinic, we utilize a variety of lasers and intense pulse light devices to provide a personalized treatment plan that serves each patient’s unique needs.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing Treatments

At Hattiesburg Clinic, we offer CO2 Laser Resurfacing as a cosmetic service to our patients. Through this service, we can dramatically reduce facial wrinkles, scars and blemishes. The CO2 laser gives our team a new level of control and is used for correction of moderate-to-severe photoaging and other conditions such as acne scarring.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing is particularly effective for:

  • Fine lines or wrinkles around the eyes, forehead or mouth
  • Scars caused by acne or trauma
  • Aged or sun-damaged skin
  • Enlarged oil glands on the nose

How is laser skin resurfacing performed?

During the procedure, you will typically be under local anesthesia, though special circumstances may require different approaches. The treatment area will be thoroughly cleaned, and an antibiotic will be applied to prevent infection. The laser then passes over the skin, emitting short, high-intensity beams of light that remove damaged outer layers. You may notice a mild “zapping” sound or a slight burning smell during the procedure.

Once the procedure is complete, the treated area will be covered with a protective ointment or bandage. Depending on the extent of the treatment, the session can last anywhere from five minutes to an hour and a half.

Who is a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing?

Of the many men and women who visit us, the best candidates for laser skin resurfacing are non-smokers who are interested in treating facial wrinkles, age spots, sun damage or slight scarring. Another important factor is skin type and color. Those with very dark or sensitive skin may not be suitable candidates. In addition, if a patient is prone to cold sores or has active acne, laser skin resurfacing may not be the best procedure of choice.

What to Expect After Laser Skin Resurfacing

After the procedure, it is normal to experience some swelling, bruising and itching in the treated area. Cold packs and over-the-counter pain medications can help alleviate discomfort. Some patients may also need to wear a bandage that should remain dry and will require changing after a few days. You will receive detailed instructions on how to care for your skin, including how to cleanse the treated area and apply ointment.

Scabs may form as your skin heals, but it is important to avoid picking at them to prevent scarring. Additionally, you should avoid direct sun exposure for six to 12 months following treatment to protect your skin and ensure the best results.

Laser Skin Resurfacing Results

Our CO2 laser resurfacing treatments will remove the outer layer of skin while stimulating underlying collagen growth. After the treated area goes through its healing process for 7-10 days, the new skin that forms is smoother and firmer.
