Laser Eye Surgery

Hattiesburg Clinic provides a thoughtful and thorough experience to each of our patients receiving laser eye treatments.

Laser Eye Surgery Overview

At Hattiesburg Clinic, we perform an assortment of laser eye procedures, including LASIK, focal and pan-retinal photocoagulation (PRP), selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), yttrium aluminum garnet peripheral iridotomy (YAG PI) and yttrium aluminum garnet posterior capsulotomy (YAG PC). These procedures can be used to treat conditions resulting from glaucoma and cataracts.

Some laser procedures are aimed at reshaping the cornea while others work to replace the natural lens in the eye. Our laser procedures, performed by board-certified ophthalmologists, are typically minimally invasive and are performed in an outpatient setting allowing you to recover from the comfort of your home.

Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK)

LASIK surgery is a well-known laser eye procedure aimed at correcting a patient’s vision issues. This common procedure offers patients a chance at stronger vision with a quick recovery. Typically used to get patients out of their contacts and glasses, this elective procedure is often offered to treat issues like nearsightedness, farsightedness and those who have astigmatism. Our specialists will evaluate factors like age, prescription and the health of your eyes to determine whether you are a good candidate for this procedure.

Pan-Retinal Photocoagulation (PRP)

Pan-retinal photocoagulation, or PRP, is a type of laser treatment for the eye. This procedure is used to treat patients who have developed abnormal blood vessels at the back of the eye in the retina or within the drainage system of the eye.

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)

Selective laser trabeculoplasty, or SLT, is a form of laser surgery used to treat glaucoma by lowering intraocular pressure in the eye. This procedure is commonly done if eye drop medications do not lower the eye pressure enough or cause significant side effects.

YAG Peripheral Iridotomy

YAG peripheral iridotomy is a form of laser surgery used to preserve the remaining eyesight of a patient by creating a hole in the outer edge of the iris. This increases drainage from the angle (the area between the iris and the cornea) and reduces eye pressure.

YAG Posterior Capsulotomy

The YAG posterior capsulotomy is a form of laser surgery used to treat scar tissue formed behind a lens implant. This is sometimes required months or years after the initial cataract surgery because your vision has once again become cloudy.
