Electromyography Overview
Electromyography (EMG) is a test used to detect neuromuscular abnormalities by measuring nerve response and electrical activity in the muscles and the nerve cells that control them, also known as motor neurons. During this diagnostic procedure, a thin needle electrode is inserted into the muscle to detect electrical activity on a monitor.
EMG testing may be used for both children and adults when symptoms such as muscle weakness, numbness, tingling or pain may be related to a nerve or muscle condition.
The specialists at Hattiesburg Clinic are specially trained in electromyography to interpret the electrical activity and understand if there are abnormalities present. No matter the situation, Hattiesburg Clinic has the diagnostic tools needed to help diagnose or rule out a condition and develop a customized treatment plan.
