Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists evaluate and treat people who have injuries, illnesses, or disabilities that prevent them from performing basic daily activities. The goal of occupational therapy is to help people to live their lives more independently.

Occupational Therapy Overview

Hattiesburg Clinic offers occupational therapy for patients who need assistance in improving activities they do everyday. These activities might include eating independently, participating and enjoying leisure activities, performing activities of daily living, or doing household activities such as laundry or cleaning. The assistance an individual receives might even include how to use certain devices to help them become more independent.

At Hattiesburg Clinic, we believe each patient is unique and our providers design patient-specific treatment plans to help every patient entrusted to our care reach their highest milestones. We are committed to helping patients grow and thrive by helping them develop and improve the skills they need to participate fully in daily life at the safest and most independent level possible. Our occupational therapist will also work with families to help them feel empowered and comfortable maintaining progress in between sessions.

Individual treatment plans are based on the patient’s specific needs, but might include:

  • Adaptive techniques and/or protective equipment
  • Custom splinting
  • Driving assessments
  • Ergonomic consultation
  • Industrial consultation
  • Joint mobilization
  • Pain management
  • Patient and family education
  • Powered mobility device assessments
  • Prosthetic training/management
  • Range of motion exercises
  • Sensory re-education
