Lowery A. Woodall (LAW) Outpatient Surgery Center has been providing outpatient services to South Mississippi residents since 1984.

Due to advances in anesthesia, surgical techniques, and technology, surgery may be performed in a safe and convenient center to meet the needs of those having elective surgery.

The care we provide to our patients is a top priority. Because you matter: All LAW R.N. staff is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), to perform life-saving actions if complications arise. All staff is Basic Life Support (BLS) certified. We proactively attempt to contact our patients by phone within 24 working hours post discharge to assist them in communicating any necessary needs to their physician. We implement best practices by following national guidelines for hand hygiene and infection prevention. LAW reports Quality Measures yearly to the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety network to ensure we are maintaining quality standards of care.

LAW’s mission is to provide quality health care in an efficient and cost-effective manner, with emphasis on excellence and service to the patient. Our goal is to be the health care provider of choice in South Mississippi.

Patient Surgery Status Text Messaging

At Lowery A. Woodall Outpatient Surgery Center (LAW), we strive to keep family and friends updated on a loved one’s progress throughout surgery. For convenience and to help relieve the stress of waiting, we offer a text messaging service for quick updates.

Upon the patient’s arrival, a member of our staff will register cell phone numbers for text messaging. Texts on the patient’s care status will be sent directly to the recipients during the procedure.

Here is one example of the messages: “The patient’s procedure has begun.”

Please note this is a one-way communication service. It is not possible to reply back to a physician or nurse through these text messages. Also, to safeguard the patient’s privacy and comply with HIPAA guidelines, messages are encrypted and only sent by authorized medical staff.

Some carriers may not support this service. While this is a free service of our center, standard carrier rates and charges may apply.
