Many of our patients come to us for a brow lift because they feel self-conscious about expression lines or other signs of aging in the forehead and brow region. This procedure, also known as a forehead lift, minimizes the creases that develop across the forehead or those that occur high on the bridge of the nose between the eyes. It also improves frown lines, repositions a sagging brow that is hooding the upper eyelid and raises the eyebrows to be in a more alert or youthful position.
How is a brow lift performed?
This procedure is performed under general anesthesia and can take between 30 minutes to an hour and a half. An incision is made above the ears, either in front or behind the hairline. Your plastic surgeon will then remove excess skin and any wrinkle-causing muscles. This will lift the eyebrows to a more youthful position.
Another forehead lift technique involves inserting a long, thin tube (called an endoscope) through several tiny incisions in the scalp to work on the internal structures of the forehead. Depending on the patient’s needs, a combination of these two techniques can be used to achieve optimal results.
Am I a good candidate for a brow lift?
If a patient is unhappy with sagging brows, deep creases on the forehead or furrows between the brows and top of the nose, he or she may be a good candidate for a brow lift. While many of patients are between 40 and 70 years old, this procedure can also be done on younger adults who are unhappy with their brows or forehead. For the best results, patients should have good skin tone and elasticity. Brow lifts are done in conjunction with other facial procedures, including facelifts or blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery).
What can I expect after a brow lift?
While many of our patients claim that there’s relatively little pain associated with this surgical procedure, our surgeons can prescribe medication to control any discomfort following a forehead lift. Patients may experience some swelling and bruising. Some may develop black eyes temporarily. To help reduce swelling, patients will need to keep the head elevated and use cold compresses.
Bandages are typically removed within one to three days, and sutures will either dissolve on their own or be removed within seven to 10 days. Recovery time varies from patient to patient, but most are able to resume normal activities within two weeks. Strenuous activity, however, should be avoided for several weeks. Our staff will discuss all necessary precautions and recovery methods following your brow lift.
What are typical results from a brow lift?
Many patients are happy with the results from this procedure. They tend to have a refreshed appearance following a forehead lift, which contributes to a better self-confidence level.
How much does a brow lift cost?
Brow lift prices vary from patient to patient. Additionally, this procedure is often performed in conjunction with another procedure. Because of this, procedural costs vary.
