Breast Lift

Our plastic surgeons are experts in breast enhancement services and techniques, including breast lifts.

Breast Lift Overview

A breast lift procedure, also known as mastopexy, raises the breasts by tightening the surrounding tissue and removing excess skin. If you desire to have your “former breasts back,” a breast lift can significantly reverse the effects of time, age, pregnancy and other common reasons that the breasts begin to sag.

The trusted plastic surgeons at Hattiesburg Clinic are conveniently located to serve patients throughout Mississippi. Our team of surgeons has years of experience with minimally invasive breast lift techniques. They will take the time to get to know you and your total body goals to help you achieve results that last.

How are breast lifts performed?

Breast lifts are popular, yet slightly complex procedures. They are performed under general anesthesia and typically take one to three hours.

Incisions can be made under the nipple (peri-areolar) or in an anchor shape, depending on the degree of the lift. Excess skin will then be removed, and the nipple and areola will be lifted to a higher position on the breast. Patients typically do not experience sensation loss after a breast lift, since the nipple and areola remain connected to the underlying breast tissue, nerve and blood supply.

Am I a good candidate for a breast lift?

Many of our patients who elect for a breast lift come to us with sagging, drooping breasts due to age and gravity. Patients with varying breast sizes can benefit from this surgery. However, patients with smaller breasts typically experience longer-lasting results. Those with larger breasts work against the results over a period of time.

Additionally, patients who plan to become pregnant should postpone the mastopexy until after pregnancy and breastfeeding, since both can stretch the breast tissue. During your consultation, our surgeons will help you determine which breast enhancement option is best for your unique situation.

What can I expect after a breast lift?

After a breast lift, patients can expect some bruising, soreness and swelling. All patients will wear a surgical bra for a prescribed amount of time by our surgeons, and any pain experienced can be treated with medication prescribed by your surgeon.

Depending on the swelling, a patient may have to wear an athletic bra until the mastopexy swelling subsides. Additionally, heavy lifting can cause increased pressure on the breasts and should be avoided. Stitches will be removed within a week or two, and patients should be able to return to work within a week.

What is the typical result of a breast lift?

Many of our patients have experienced a renewed sense of self-confidence with lifted and more youthful-looking breasts. A breast lift also achieves symmetry of the breasts and the ultimate goal: giving patients their desired breast shape.
