Functional Capacity Evaluations

The licensed physical and occupational therapists at Hattiesburg Clinic provide functional capacity evaluations for patients.

Functional Capacity Evaluations Overview

A functional capacity evaluation is a 3-4 hour comprehensive physical assessment completed by FCE-certified professionals in order to measure an individual’s physical abilities or overall function. Sometimes a functional capacity evaluation is done to determine whether you can return to work, or it can be used to understand if a patient’s illness or injury affects their daily abilities.

The skilled group of physical and occupational therapists at Hattiesburg Clinic are specially trained in functional capacity evaluations and have six locations to better serve our patients.

What is tested in a functional capacity evaluation?

Each evaluation is tailored to the individual based on their injury and the goals for testing, but it may include:

  • Physical strength
  • Range of motion
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling
  • Job-specific physical requirements
  • Reaching and climbing
  • Sitting and standing
  • Endurance, or level of fatigue
