Congratulations to Drs. Aldred and Campbell
L. Wesley Aldred, MD, FACP, FCCP, with Hattiesburg Clinic Critical Care Medicine and Hattiesburg Clinic Pulmonary Medicine, and Joe H. Campbell Jr., MD, with Hattiesburg Clinic Anesthesiology, were recently recognized for receiving Dr. Philip W. Rogers Awards from Forrest General Hospital.
The awards are named in tribute to Philip W. Rogers, MD, a Hattiesburg Clinic nephrologist who devoted 32 years to serving the Mississippi community. Forrest General Hospital annually recognizes health care professionals who demonstrate exceptional commitment to medicine and excellence in patient care. Based on peer nominations, each recipient embodies one of Rogers’ most notable qualities as an: advocate, humanitarian, innovator and leader.
Dr. Aldred received the Dr. Philip W. Rogers Innovator Award. When asked what the recognition meant to him, Aldred shared, “I am honored to be the recipient of the Philip Rogers Innovator Award. Dr. Philip Rogers left a lasting impact on health care and the community in Hattiesburg, and he left a wonderful example for current physicians to follow. This award for innovation represents the hard work of Hattiesburg Clinic Pulmonary Medicine including our nurses, our manager and our lung screening navigator. Our success in improving lung cancer screening could not have been done without the phenomenal staff of Hattiesburg Clinic Imaging. This award serves as encouragement to continue to pursue excellence in lung cancer care for our patients, and I appreciate Forrest General’s recognition of our efforts.”
Dr. Campbell received the Dr. Philip W. Rogers Humanitarian Award. Reflecting on the honor, Campbell shared, “It was such an honor for me to receive this prestigious award from the hospital to which I have dedicated nearly four decades of my professional career.” He noted that since his arrival in 1987, Forrest General Hospital, beginning with the support of Mr. Lowery Woodall, has provided him and the anesthesia department with the tools and medications needed to remain on the cutting edge of patient care.
Campbell also highlighted the impact of long-standing institutional support, explaining, “The support given to me by Forrest General Hospital and Hattiesburg Clinic over the past 18 years has allowed me to use my anesthesia skills in the destitute areas of Honduras, supplying health care and procedures that otherwise would not be available to that population.” He shared that Forrest General Hospital, Hattiesburg Clinic, and Southern Bone and Joint have donated medical equipment to support a small hospital in Guamacca, and that each year, nurses, CRNAs and physicians from Forrest General Hospital and The University of Southern Mississippi volunteer their time to make these surgeries possible.
“I could not have accomplished any of this without the support of these institutions and individuals,” Campbell added. “This award truly should go collectively to them.”
Aldred and Campbell exemplify the spirit of the Dr. Philip W. Rogers Awards through their unwavering dedication to innovation and humanitarian service that focuses on patient-centered care. We are happy to celebrate their contributions and the lasting impact they continue to make on the patients and communities we serve.
