Hattiesburg Clinic Receives Recognition from AMA
Hattiesburg Clinic has earned bronze-level recognition from the American Medical Association (AMA) as a Joy in Medicine™ health organization, showcasing our commitment to supporting physician well-being and combating burnout within health care. Our chief executive officer, Bryan N. Batson, MD, was featured in the article highlighting the clinic’s ongoing efforts to support physicians through autonomy, community and meaningful support.
The feature explains how Hattiesburg Clinic, a physician-owned and independent practice, has built a strong sense of community by focusing on physician well-being, collaboration and leadership development. Batson shared insights into the clinic’s philosophy, emphasizing the importance of culture over structure.
“One of the things we’ve learned over the last several years, especially coming out of the pandemic,” said Batson, “is that the focus on physician well-being and having joy in the practice of medicine has more to do with culture and feeling valued and grounded in the principles that are consistent with their core beliefs on why they went into health care in the first place.”
Batson also discussed initiatives like the onboarding academy for new physicians, the suggestion portal for continuous feedback and opportunities for physicians to participate in decision-making committees. “The decisions are being made by the people who are plugging in and investing their time to help understand the problems and then make recommendations, ultimately, to the board,” he said.
From physician-led committees to physician engagement events, the clinic continues to invest in helping physicians feel supported both professionally and personally. “We continue to learn and evolve as new variables enter this complex world of health care, physician wellness and the joy in medicine,” Batson said.
