Employee Spotlight: Kristen Saxton
This month we are spotlighting Kristen Saxton, who works as a receptionist at The Center for Sleep Medicine at Hattiesburg Clinic.
Before joining Hattiesburg Clinic in March, Saxton worked as a cosmetologist at a local salon.
“I worked as a stylist for less than a year, and then I got the call from the clinic to join the team,” Saxton said. “I’ve always wanted to work at Hattiesburg Clinic, and I am thankful for where I am today.”
At The Center for Sleep Medicine, Saxton works at the front desk, answering the telephone and greeting patients as they come in for their appointment.
“Other than checking patients in for office visits, I also help prepare for the sleep studies,” Saxton said. “I confirm the beds for the nighttime sleep studies and check with patients to see if they have questions before their appointment.”
“I enjoy meeting new people. We have a lot of amazing patients that we work with every day,” Saxton said. “I also love my co-workers. We’re like one big family.”
In her spare time, Saxton spends time with her husband of six years, Jerry, and their children, Riley, 13, Chandler, 11, and Mason, 5. The family of five especially enjoys attending Southern Miss football games.
“We go to all of them,” Saxton said. “My husband is an Ole Miss fan, so I will watch the Rebels play; however, Southern Miss is my team. I grew up going to the games in my cheerleading outfits, so it’s a family tradition.”
In the future, Saxton hopes to return to the university to obtain a master’s degree in human studies.
“One day, I hope to become a social worker,” Saxton said. “I’ve always had a passion for kids and want what’s best for them. I want to help people the best that I can.”
Saxton does just that at The Center for Sleep Medicine at Hattiesburg Clinic. Her co-worker, Jennifer, praised Saxton’s upbeat and vibrant personality and said she’s a great addition to their team.
“I am so grateful to be here at Hattiesburg Clinic. It’s an amazing place to work,” Saxton said. “We love all of our patients, and we strive to do the best we can to help.”
If you were to meet anyone, living or deceased, who would you want to meet?
KS: Dolly Parton. I grew up going to Dollywood, and I now take my kids there. I admire her personality, strength, faith, and the fact that she’s still helping kids, her town, and all those around her.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
KS: I’m a sucker for a good romance movie. I also love the Bachelor and the Bachelorette, and those qualify as a guilty pleasure.
What’s on your bucket list?
KS: Skydiving – except I have a fear of heights, so I’ll have to get over that. My cousin is a skydiving trainer in Tennessee, so she’s been wanting me to come up and do it for a while.
KS: “Be who you are and say how you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.” – Dr. Seuss
