How does the balloon sinuplasty procedure work?

The goal of sinuplasty surgery is to clear congestion by opening any blocked sinus passages and draining fluid. Patients are awake for the minimally-invasive procedure.

  • Local anesthesia will be injected into the inside of your nose.
  • Your ENT doctor will insert a catheter into your nose.
  • The catheter will guide the balloon through your nostril and into your sinus cavity.
  • The balloon will slowly be inflated to enlarge the sinus cavity and drain fluid.
  • The process will be repeated as needed. When finished, your doctor will deflate and remove the balloon and catheter.
