Additional Dose of Updated Vaccine Recommended for Ages 65+

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued updated recommendations regarding the COVID-19 vaccine as of February 28, 2024.

In light of evolving scientific data and the ongoing effort to combat the spread of COVID-19, it is advised that adults aged 65 years and over should receive an additional dose of any updated 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccine, including Pfizer, BioNTech, Moderna or Novavax. The second dose should be at least four months following the initial dose of the updated vaccine.

People aged 65 years and older who have not previously received any COVID-19 vaccine doses and choose to get Novavax should get two doses of the updated Novavax vaccine, followed by one additional dose of any updated 2023–2024 COVID-19 vaccine to be up to date.

These updated recommendations are part of the continued efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of our community members, particularly those who are at higher risk due to age or underlying health conditions.

To schedule your updated COVID vaccine, please talk to your primary care provider or contact Hattiesburg Clinic at (601) 261-1620. Vaccines are available on the first floor of the main clinic, located at 415 S. 28th Ave., in Hattiesburg, Miss.
