Alcivar Featured on WDAM for AFib Awareness
In a recent interview with WDAM, Diego F. Alcivar, MD, FACC, with Hattiesburg Clinic Heart and Vascular shared important information about Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) and how early detection can save lives.
Dr. Alcivar explained that AFib occurs when the heart beats irregularly and rapidly. Left untreated, the condition can increase the risk of serious complications such as stroke, heart attack or heart failure.
“Symptoms include heart palpitations, heart fluttering or skipped beats, but some patients may also experience tiredness, weakness, dizziness, shortness of breath or even lightheadedness,” Alcivar said.
Alcivar emphasized that AFib is treatable, especially when caught early. Treatment may include medications, procedures or lifestyle adjustments aimed at improving overall heart health. Preventing or managing AFib also involves adopting a heart-healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, regular exercise and limiting excessive alcohol use.
By raising awareness during AFib Awareness Month, Alcivar encouraged individuals to pay attention to their heart health and seek care if symptoms arise.
