Pediatric Sick Visits

The well-being of your child is important to us, and our main concern is to help them on the road to recovery as soon as possible.

Pediatric Sick Visits

Children with developing immune systems are susceptible to illnesses and will present concerning symptoms and discomfort. When you have a sick or injured child at home, it is important to have prompt access to professional medical care. We understand that as parents, your priority is to alleviate your child’s discomfort and help them feel better as quickly as possible. Hattiesburg Clinic reserves times during the day to offer same-day, sick child appointments to provide care for acute or short-term health concerns.

Common Illnesses Treated During Sick Visits

Sick visits treat many types of illness and injuries that need care. Common symptoms that are treated during a sick visit include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Allergic reactions
  • Asthma
  • Eye discharge or infection/Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)
  • Congestion or Drainage
  • Cough or Sore Throat
  • Earaches/Infections
  • Fever
  • Flu
  • Headaches
  • Lacerations or abrasions
  • Rashes or hives
  • Upper respiratory infections
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea

Symptoms presented in children can change as the illness progresses. If your child is exhibiting any of the above symptoms, do not hesitate to call Hattiesburg Clinic. We are here to care for your little loved ones and bring peace of mind to our parents.

What to Expect During a Sick Visit?

Sick child visits are intended to identify the cause of their sickness or pain and provide a treatment plan to help resolve their symptoms. At a sick appointment you can expect to experience the following:

  • Symptom Assessment: You will be asked about the child’s symptoms, including the duration and severity.
  • Physical Examination: A provider will assess the child’s overall health and identify any specific signs of illness or injury. This may include checking vital signs, examining specific parts of the body and looking for physical abnormalities.
  • Diagnostic Tests: Depending on the nature of the symptoms, diagnostic tests such as respiratory swabs, blood tests, urine tests or imaging studies (e.g., X-rays) may be recommended to help determine the source of the problem.
  • Treatment Recommendations: Based on your child’s diagnosis, your provider will recommend a customized treatment plan. This may include medications, home care advice or over-the-counter remedies.
  • Guidance: Parents will receive instructions on how to care for their sick child at home, including administering medications, monitoring symptoms and recognizing signs that may require further medical attention.
