FibroScans

When it comes to liver conditions, the proper diagnosis, treatment and management are critical. Learn about our team’s approach today.

FibroScan Overview

FibroScans are utilized to help in the proper diagnosis and management of fatty liver disease and conditions that may lead to liver fibrosis. FibroScans, also known as transient elastography, are unique in that they utilize an imaging device to help analyze a patient’s liver health and measure fibrosis.

FibroScans provide an alternative method to the typical liver biopsy. A liver biopsy requires a small procedure, where the FibroScan is non-invasive. The FibroScan process takes only a few minutes and is painless for the patient. Upon completion of a scan, we will help determine the best next steps in treating and managing your condition.

Hattiesburg Clinic is proud to offer the latest in liver health analysis to patients across Mississippi.

Understanding the value of FibroScans

FibroScans allow medical professionals to analyze the severity of liver disease and act on those results accordingly. These results allow our team deeper insight and analysis into our patient’s liver health and help us in our treatment decisions. It also allows us to monitor changes in the liver and the progression of diseases over time.

How does FibroScan testing work?

The stiffness of the liver is measured by a technique called transient elastography. The scan is performed by sending vibrations into the liver tissue and measuring how quickly it travels through the liver. Stiffer tissue in the liver transmits vibrations faster, which may indicate fibrosis or cirrhosis.

Who do we treat?

Hattiesburg Clinic proudly treats patients from teenage years to adult years. There are several scenarios where a FibroScan may be beneficial, including in the diagnosis and evaluation of:

  • Fatty Liver Disease
  • Liver Fibrosis
  • Cirrhosis

This evaluation method allows us to perform screenings and evaluations that can help with management and treatment strategies.
