COVID-19 Vaccination Weekend Clinic at the C. E. Roy Community Center
Hattiesburg Clinic recently partnered with the city of Hattiesburg and Forrest General Hospital to host a free COVID-19 weekend vaccination clinic. 252 doses were made available each day, and those doses were quickly claimed at this no-appointment clinic.
Angel Johnson, MD, and Jawauna Stewart, MD, both spoke with WDAM about the free, weekend clinic and the importance of getting vaccinated when possible. “COVID is going to be around for a long time. So, there’s no cure for it as we can speak for right now. So, the best way to prevent it is to get the vaccine,” said Dr. Angel Johnson.
In Mississippi, new infections are on the decline, but we see major upswings in new infections after holidays and events that traditionally call for a group to gather. The Super Bowl, Mardi Gras and the impending spring break gatherings could all adversely affect the state’s progress. And with variant mutated strains of COVID-19 popping up in the US, it has become increasingly more important to get vaccinated when you are eligible. The more the virus is allowed to replicate, unchecked, the mutations will grow more infectious and could possibly become stronger than the vaccine.
