Tips for a Healthier New Year

Eating healthier is a process that does not happen overnight. Grettel Rodriguez, MD, with Hattiesburg Clinic Weight Management, said that it’s best to start slow when it comes to dieting and developing better eating habits.

“[To cut down on unhealthy items] Start by eliminating 50% of it,” Rodriguez said. “If you know you drink four cans of coke a day, you set up yourself to start drinking two.”

“Stimulus control is a very important part of this,” she added. “For example, you don’t buy the four because when you see it in the refrigerator, you’re probably going to go for it. So, you buy two instead.”
