Telehealth Video Visits Deliver Convenient Care
Telehealth video visits through Hattiesburg Clinic’s patient portal, Iris, are an innovative way for patients to receive the care they need in the comfort of their own home. With the spread of COVID-19, this has become more important than ever. Mr. James Sims has been a patient of Hattiesburg Clinic for over nine years and recently took advantage of this new method of remote care.
Sims scheduled his first video visit with Ahmad Yehya, MD, of Hattiesburg Clinic Endocrinology and found it to be very useful. “Yes, it helped,” Sims said. “I’ll be honest with you. It helped a lot. I am supposed to have another video chat with him.”
Hattiesburg Clinic offers Telehealth video visits so patients can electronically visit with certain providers through their Iris account. Telehealth, also known as telemedicine, is the use of video and voice technology to deliver health care services at a distance. With Hattiesburg Clinic’s live telehealth video service, patients have the ability to schedule time with a provider through a two-way video conference while never leaving their office or home.
When Sims was having difficulty setting up the visit, his grandson was there to lend a helping hand. Endocrinology manager, Nena Mauritz, walked Mr. Sims’ grandson through the set up for Mr. Sims’ appointment. When asked, Mr. Sims’ grandson said, “Well, I always do things like that for him. It’s nothing new because I’m good with computers and phones.”
“I thank God for this little fellow, right here,” Sims said. “We appreciate anything we can do to help somebody else that may be in need and don’t understand. These video chats will help you.”
Thank you, Mr. James Sims, for sharing your story and a big thank you to his grandson for stepping in to ensure Mr. Sims got to see his doctor.
