In accordance with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Hattiesburg Clinic Children’s ClinicThe Pediatric Clinic and HealthWorks Immunization Clinic, a service of Hattiesburg Clinic and Forrest General Hospital, are now offering the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for children ages 5-11.

The pediatric vaccine is a two-dose series with each dose, which is one-third of the adult dose, administered 21 days apart. It is important that children be vaccinated with the age-appropriate dosing, meaning kids ages 5-11 receive the pediatric vaccine and children ages 12 and older receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for teens. Booster doses for children are not authorized at this time.

“The pediatric COVID-19 vaccine has been proven to be safe and effective in protecting children from getting COVID-19, also limiting their risk of severe disease, hospitalizations and developing long-term COVID-19 complications,” Victoria Sivils, MD, a pediatrician at The Pediatric Clinic said.

“In addition to protecting children from severe coronavirus infection, getting children vaccinated can help curb community transmission and lessen the chances of a new variant from emerging, which in turn would allow students to stay in school and continue in-person learning and after-school activities,” she added.

To schedule a vaccine appointment, contact your pediatrician’s office. The Pediatric Clinic patients may schedule an appointment by calling (601) 579-3000; The Children’s Clinic patients may schedule their appointment by calling (601) 261-3500.

For patients who have not established care with a Hattiesburg Clinic pediatrician, vaccine appointments are also available at HealthWorks Immunization Clinic and can be scheduled via Iris or by calling (601) 261-1620.

All children under the age of 18 will require a parent or guardian permission to receive the vaccine.
