New Year, New Goals – Counseling For Your Kids

By Josh Hamm, LPC

It’s that time of year again for New Year’s resolutions! But what about kids?

It’s important to teach kids how to set and obtain goals at an earlier age. Goals are also far more obtainable when you have help and accountability. Counseling can serve as a wonderful tool to help children set goals, overcome obstacles and work through things that can be stressful or overwhelming.

Counseling can serve as a safe space for your children to process their thoughts and emotions. Aside from helping them organize and achieve goals in the new year, it can also help them with other important life matters. For instance, a counselor can help your kid navigate new stages of development or transitional phases.

Whether starting a new school, dealing with personal struggles, or preparing to enter their next chapter after high school, counseling can help them understand and manage varying moods and behaviors that result from whatever challenges they face. In counseling, they could learn important coping skills and techniques that could be useful in their everyday life for years to come.

Are you thinking about counseling for your child this new year but don’t know what to expect? Here’s a video that will break down exactly what to expect and how things work.
