New Technology Makes Ultrasound Images Available on Phones, Tablets
Expectant mothers can now receive ultrasound images on their cell phone or tablet during their exam.
The new technology, called TricefyTM, was developed by Trice Imaging, Inc., and allows sonographers to text or email parents a secure link to their baby’s 3D ultrasound images or 4D videos. The feature allows the images to then be shared with family members or on social media.
“I like it more [than paper images], just because you don’t have to try to keep up with the pictures. Most people like it on their phone, and this way it comes straight to your phone. You’re not trying to take a picture of a picture,” said expectant mother Lauren Hartfield, one of the first patients to try it at Hattiesburg Clinic Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Hartfield said it was especially convenient when it came to sharing it with her family.
“My husband works off, so I was able to send the link straight to him. He thought it was cool.”
Aside from the convenience of receiving the image quickly and electronically and the ability to share it on social media, the recipients can also download and save the image forever.
Carla McDonald is a registered diagnostic medical sonographer at Hattiesburg Clinic Maternal Fetal Medicine. She said the Tricefy option is a game-changer when it comes to the simplicity of the process and the quality of images.
“All we have to do is get their phone number or email address and put it in our system. Then we’re able to send them over. It’s a very quick process and the quality of the image is impeccable. With the paper printout, it’s thermal paper, it’s expensive, and you never know what you’re going to get. And I think the patients are a lot happier,” said McDonald.
She said they’re able to provide the shareable images without any private information being released with the image or link. At Hattiesburg Clinic, the option is provided as a courtesy to moms-to-be and does not cost anything.
