Raymond Y. Whitehead, MD, named Mississippi Athletic Trainers’ Association’s Sports Medicine Person of the Year
The Mississippi Athletic Trainers’ Association (MATA) recently named Raymond Y. Whitehead, MD, an orthopaedic surgeon with Hattiesburg Clinic Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Sports Medicine Person of the Year for his continuous support and promotion of the field of athletic training in Mississippi. Each year this award is presented to a person, persons or corporation that exhibits a passion for the athletic training profession and go above and beyond in areas of practice advancement, legislative initiatives, local and state promotion and job creation for athletic trainers.
“I am humbled to be considered for such a prestigious honor and award which would not be possible without the hard work, commitment, and dedication of the athletic trainers, physicians, nurses, and staff of Hattiesburg Clinic Sports Medicine,” said Whitehead.
MATA works to improve the quality of health care for athletes, patients and to enhance the profession of athletic training through advocacy, leadership, education and combined efforts with other allied health care professionals.
Hattiesburg Clinic Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine treats a spectrum of orthopaedic conditions and diseases including musculoskeletal injuries, fractures and complex total joint reconstructions. They also provide outreach coverage of local school and community athletic events to provide onsite care for athletes and active people.
