Tips to Overcome Infant Mortality
Anita S. Henderson, MD, a pediatrician with The Pediatric Clinic, a service of Hattiesburg Clinic, and Randy Henderson, MD, a neonatologist with Forrest General Hospital, recently discussed tips to overcome infant mortality with WDAM. Mississippi currently has the highest infant mortality rate in the country.
Since over half the counties in Mississippi do not have an OBGYN or delivering hospitals, A. Henderson suggests those thinking of having a baby should plan ahead.
“I think the most important thing expecting mothers should do is get a checkup, stay up to date on their health care, make sure blood pressure, diabetes and any kind of chronic conditions are under control, take a vitamin (with 400micrograms of Folic Acid) every day and anyone smoking or vaping in your household should stop,” A. Henderson said. “These actions will help you have a healthy baby or create a healthy pregnancy.”
