What is a Clinical Trial?
Clinical trials are research studies involving people and designed to evaluate a medical, surgical or behavioral intervention. They are the primary method by which researchers find out if a new treatment, such as a new drug, diet or medical device (e.g., a pacemaker, stent, etc.) is safe and effective for people.
A clinical trial is often used to determine if a new treatment is more effective and/or has less harmful side effects than the standard treatment.
