6th Annual Rise & Shine Race Draws Largest Crowd Yet

More than 700 individuals, along with clinic employees and members of the community, participated in Hattiesburg Clinic’s 6th Annual Rise & Shine Half-Marathon & 5K on April 1, 2017.

The event benefitted The Arc of Southeast Mississippi, a non-profit organization that serves South Mississippi residents with developmental challenges. This year’s event will up the donation to more than $30,000 for The Arc’s Rise & Shine Program, which allows adults with disabilities the chance to take part in recreational, social and community centric activities.

“We are happy to say we had more race participants this year than ever before, which means we will be able to increase our donation to The Arc this year. As always, this would not have been possible without our sponsors and volunteers,” said Susan Yarrow, public relations manager for Hattiesburg Clinic. “We cannot thank our sponsors, the community and all of our volunteers enough for making this year’s event so successful.”

To Our Race Participants:

On behalf of Hattiesburg Clinic and The Arc of Southeast Mississippi, we want to thank you for being a part of the 2017 race. Because of you, we were able host another successful event.

As I’m sure you know, 100 percent of your registration fee will go to support the Rise & Shine Program, allowing The Arc to keep membership fees minimal. From a personal standpoint, I am especially thankful to you for giving your time and money to be a part of our race. My son, Hoy, has benefitted from services provided by The Arc, and your participation means a great deal to people like him. As a result, Rise & Shine members can continue enjoying activities that keep them engaged in their community.

We hope you enjoyed your race experience and that you are fulfilled in knowing that your participation in this event has truly made a difference in the community.

We look forward to seeing you again in 2018!

Kim Schramm Doherty, Rise & Shine Co-Chair
